Low Carb Foods For Breakfast
Eggs and bacon make a tasty low-carb breakfast, but there is a variety of food options while on a diet. You can diversify your diet as to decrease boredom and have a healthier menu.
You can boil or scramble egg whites or whole eggs or you can think of other tasty and quick preparations. Scramble or boil eggs and serve with a tortilla, fresh cilantro, salsa, and a slice of avocado. Alternatively, you can mix several eggs and milk to make an Italian frittata.
If you want to lower the amount of saturated fat in your menu, you can eat lean meats. There is a variety of low-fat lean meats such as turkey bacon, smoked deli turkey, ham, and Canadian bacon. Keep in mind that some meats contain high amount of sodium. Sausage saute is one low-sodium lean meat option. You can use flaxseed meal or almond flour to make pancakes. You can make low-carb hash browns as well. Stir vegetables such as jicama, zucchini, or cauliflower and add seasonings and beaten eggs. Saute the vegetable mix in a hot pan. Serve with a fried egg or turkey saute.
Low-carb cereals are another option for a healthy breakfast. You can make your own low-carb, sugar-free granola as well. You will need raw almonds, pecans, and walnuts, shredded coconut, flaxseed meal, butter, and water. You can serve with yogurt, cottage cheese, and dehydrated blueberries or strawberries. Another option is to combine spoonable dairy products with flaxseed, nuts, and frozen berries to make a healthy low-carb breakfast. Products to choose from include tofu, ricotta, cottage cheese, and yogurt. You can use dairies to make shakes, adding flavorings, fruit, and protein powder. Alternatively, you can make a shake by mixing water, kefir, unsweetened soy milk, and protein powder. Tofu can be used as a central protein in shakes or you can make tofu scrambles.
Other healthy options for a low-carb diet include burritos, rollups, and wraps. You can scoop a sausage, chicken, or eggs into a tortilla and add condiments and veggies.
Fruits are a good addition to a healthy low-carb breakfast because they contain antioxidants and are low in sugar. Fruits that are lowest in sugar include blueberries, raspberries, rhubarb, and lime and lemon (in small amounts). Occasionally, you can have fruits that contain low amounts of sugar such as blueberries, nectarines, peaches, and watermelon. Avoid fruits that are fairly high or very high in sugar. Fruits that contain very high amounts of sugar include dried fruits (dates and raisins), grapes, mangos, and cherries, and mangos}. Buy organic fruits and vegetables that have the least pesticides in order to minimize pesticide exposure.
